The Fault In Our Stars

So I went to watch TFIOS with my big sister yesterday and oh my god, it was everything I had hoped for and more. After waiting so long to see it, I was worried that it may not live up to my expectations. As well as this, a load of my friends had been saying how amazing it was and I was worrying that they may have over hyped it and I'd be disappointed, but my main worry was that it wouldn't do the book justice. I'm going to attempt to not give away too many spoiler alerts so I don't ruin it for those of you who haven't seen it but literally what are you waiting for? GO. SEE. IT.

I read the book a couple of months after it came out, though, before this I had read 'Looking For Alaska' where I first fell in love with John Green. He is a literature God. The Fault In Our Stars quickly became my most favourite book and the news that it was being made into a film was insane. It's so crazy how well the film abided by the book.. you know when you read a book and you get this sense of imagery where you start to invision what the characters look like, how they act, how they dress, how they talk and you get an idea of where they hang out and you start to create your own little world inside of this book. I did just that (which I'm sure you all did) and the film was exactly what I had imagined inside of my head- I think it's very hard to be able to do that. Another reason why John Green is a God.

Shailene Woodley played Hazel Grace so well, although, the only thing I have to critique (and I literally mean the only thing.. okay, minus the fact they missed out the "my thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations" quote and the way Augustus said "it's a good life, Hazel Grace" during the picnic and not the meal) is that she should have been a little more shy and awkward like how the book portrays her. Augustus Waters though, spot on. Ansel Elgort, I literally think I love you. Augustus was even better than I imagined he ever could be and that is saying something because "I fell in love with him the way you fall asleep, slowly and then all at once". Augustus' character is definitely why I have such high expectations when it comes to relationships, like seriously, no wonder we expect so much and are disappointed when there's guys like him about who practically adores the ground she walks on, surprises her at any given moment, compliments her at all times, puts her needs before his own entirely, uses his last freakin' dying wish just to take her to Amsterdam AND writes the end of her favourite book because the Author is an arsehole. UGH, THAT DOESN'T EVEN COVER IT ALL. Augustus Waters is the most perfect human to ever (not) exist. Lets not forget about Isaac, another character that was even better than I expected. The book made me think he would be slightly shy and reserved but the film definitely showed you the opposite. I love that guy, he's a bloody legend. Plus, Nat Wolff is a bit of alright.

So please people, go and see the bloody film. BUT FIRST, read the book. It annoys me when people are all "oh my god, I love TFIOS", "TFIOS is so sad!!", as much as it is, you will not understand the half of it until you read the book. In my opinion, books are always better than the films anyway but the film is honestly so incredible, the book is still better but that's just because I'm emotionally attached and although the film does make you understand everything and so in that sense, it does explain the book but the book still makes you see it in another light. I have never cried so much at a film in all my life so don't make the mistake of not bringing tissues. Okay? Okay.
