5 things I've learnt since being a second year
Hello! Sorry it's actually been ages since I last blogged, I guess I've been busy and got a bit side tracked! So, I'm back at University now, living with 8 crazy people in our basement flat in Hastings. A lot has changed since my last post and I always find that strange, how quickly things can change without you ever really noticing.
I thought I'd make a post on just 5 things I've learnt since becoming a second year. Though, I still feel like a fresher. Especially since ours appear to be non-existent.
1) You gain a completely new and different friendship with people once you start living with them. You realise everyones good habits, bad habits and everything in between on a much greater scale than when you're in Halls. You're in one another's proximity and however much you love them, that can be bloody annoying at times.
2) I've actually started to become a little less independent in a way. During first year it's all exciting and new and you want to do something all the time and you're constantly meeting new people and you have to actually cook and wash for yourself and that's like totally cool because you've never done it before so you want to spread your wings and become a social butterfly. I've found that this time around things are a little less exciting and instead of constantly meeting new people I have found I've become a basement troll who drinks wine alone in her room because all the clubs are dead. And who is going to grate the cheese for my spag bol? Mum? Where you at?
3) I probably care a bit more about my course this year. Everyone says first year is piss easy and if you don't get through to second year you're "stupid" but I don't think that's true at all. Yes, I went out a lot and got drunk more than I probably should have and spent the majority of the year either drunk or hungover.. BUT I still feel like when it came down to it I did my work and spent time on it. This year I'm kind of learning that I can't just drag behind anymore, I have to keep myself on top of things else I'll simply fall short. This is what I want to do, that's why I'm here.
4) The friends you become really close with through first year will most likely be the friends you stay close with for the rest of your time at Uni. I'm all for mingling and getting to know people but there's enough of us in our group to have a small party of our own and I love that.
5) You're going to say that you're gonna manage your money better next time around but you're not. You still blow it on stupid shit and when you greet that all too familiar overdraft once more you can't help but feel you have nothing to show for it and you're back to living on tinned food, pasta and noodles. Anything that has a label and isn't just 'everyday value' is seen as a luxury.
See you sexy people soon!
